This single article is a great bio piece on Jake DeRosier, one of the bright lights of early motorcycle racing. DeRosier is best known as a rider for Indian Motorcycles, and set numerous speed records on board tracks around the country from 1902 through 1912. He raced in the first motorized competition at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in August 1909, before the track was paved with bricks. DeRosier was seriously injured in that race meet, but recovered to return to competition a few weeks later. DeRosier raced in the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy and at Brooklands, both in England, in 1911. His career was a seemingly endless series of victories punctuated by accidents and injuries. He died of complications from surgery to repair a broken leg in 1913.
