This is a terrific bio piece done on Dario Resta shortly after he began competing in the United States in 1915. He had only recently married Mary Wishart Resta, the sister of one of the young chargers of the day, Spencer Wishart. This is an excellent source for anyone interested in Resta's career.
The original source reports that this is a photo of Dario Resta in a an English Sunbeam at the 1913 French Grand Prix in Amiens, France. Resta won at Indy in 1916. He finished sixth in this event.
The man credited with designing and constructing the first automoible is Germany's Karl Benz. While other motor driven carriages - such as those by Gottlieb Daimler - were also operating, the keep difference is that the Benz machine was purpose-built. That is, it was designed exclusively as a motor driven vehicle, not as a horse-drawn carriage.
