Harold Van Gorder wrecked his Lozier racer in a May 27, 1911 practice run at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The mechanic riding with him, Walter Bardell, was seriously injured, suffering a broken shoulder, facial lacerations and multiple contusions. Ralph Mulford in another Lozier eventually finished second in the race, the first Indianapolis 500 on May 30, 1911. The Van Gorder Lozier was not repaired in time to compete in the race. It was not a team car to Mulford's as it was a private entry.
