1908 French GP Centennial

10/23/2009

This is a very interesting video about last year's centennial celebration of the 1908 French Grand Prix. The race was an embarrassment to the French as a German Mercedes won with German Benz cars taking second and third. The race pre-dated the 1926 merger of Mercedes and Benz. The video is a mix of current day images and those from 1908 as a host of restored vintage cars appeared on the scene. Former Formula One driver Jochen Mass is interviewed briefly to lend perspective to just how difficult it was to drive and race this equipment in those days. Well worth the four minutes!
