Barney Oldfield, Indy Star Columnist

07/30/2009

I just uploaded a column written by Barney Oldfield and published in the May 28, Indianapolis Star. Oldfield, who was suspended from the AAA because of competing in races they did not sanction, effectively became the Star's racing analyst for the first Indianapolis 500 in 1911. He did a great job capturing the atmosphere, including describing how restaurants named some of their dishes after drivers such as Bob Burman and David Bruce-Brown and how the paper boys shouted "extra" reports about events at the Speedway. Great read.
