Eddie Rickenbacker Video

07/04/2009

It's July 4 and I felt patriotic today, so let's remember a war hero that was very much invested in the freedom of American citizens. Brits too.

You gotta love YouTube. The new featured video I just added sketches the early life and career of Eddie Rickenbacker, who purchased the Indianapolis Motor Speedway from James Allison and Carl Fisher in 1927. If you're looking for a lot of info on his auto racing career, you will be disappointed. The video glosses over his record at Indy and leaves out his stints with Firestone-Columbus, Mason and Maxwell. I know, the limitations of time and space. So be it. It's still a nice tribute to a man that played an important role in shepherding the Speedway through some very difficult times - like the Great Depression and World War II.
