The First Automobile

12/01/2009

The man credited with designing and constructing the first automoible is Germany's Karl Benz. While other motor driven carriages - such as those by Gottlieb Daimler - were also operating, the keep difference is that the Benz machine was purpose-built. That is, it was designed exclusively as a motor driven vehicle, not as a horse-drawn carriage. The first automobile was completed in 1886, and my favorite story about Benz and his car is how his wife packed their kids in the car and drove some some 80 miles to visit her parents - without telling Karl. When you look at this car think high tech. That is exactly what this incredible machine was when it first debuted.

Below are two videos of this amazing automobile.
