The Lincoln Highway

One of Indianapolis Motor Speedway founder Carl Fisher's many great accomplishments was to lead the development of America's first transcontinental highway, "The Lincoln Highway." Ground breaking occurred in 1915 with the help of other leading lights in the automobile industry such Packard Motor Car Company President Henry B. Joy and Arthur Raynor Pardington, an earlier leader of the American Automobile Association, the Vanderbilt Cup Race commission and the Long Island Motor Parkway.

Below are two videos about the highway. One is a contemporary report on the Lincoln Highway as it exists today and the other is a vintage film clip from the 1915 ground breaking ceremony.
