Chevrolet Wanted to Race in 1911

Even though Louis Chevrolet had retired as an auto racing driver in 1911, the racing bug got to him when he realized how important the first Indianapolis 500 would inevitably be.
"I guess that gasoline odor hypnotizes me, and I know the sound of the old Buick motors calls louder than anything else I ever heard," Chevrolet said in expressing his desire to serve as a relief driver for the Buick team in the first Indianapolis 500.
