Altoona Moto

This is another image from the Paul Sheedy collection. Sheedy's margin notes indicate that what you see here is the starting field for the 1925 national championship American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) national championship race at the 1.25-mile Altoona board track speedway. AMA became the organizing force for American professional motorcycle racing in 1924. This filled a void created seven years earlier when the Federation of American Motorcyclists (FAM) collapsed. FAM is perhaps best remembered as the sanctioning body for the very first motorized competition at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1909.
