Image of The Week

In this image from the Paul Sheedy collection we see sprint car hall-of-fame driver and Indianapolis 500 veteran Elbert "Babe" Stapp at the Indianapols Motor Speedway in May 1927. Stapp competed in 12 Indianapols 500 races from 1927 through 1940, with a best finish of fifth in 1939. Like many racers of the era, he became involved with aviation, joining the Bon MacDougall's bi-plane stunt show, 13 Black Cats.
