Image of The Week
Dario Resta married Mary Wishart not long after he came to the United States in 1915. Mary was the daughter of millionaire Wall Street investor George Wishart and the brother of Spencer Wishart, one of the bravest and fastest drivers of the era. Wishart had been killed in the National Trophy race at Elgin, Illinois during August 1914. Throughout their marriage Mary fretted about Dario's racing. Her pleadings did not go unheeded as Dario he announced his retirement in 1917, but vacillated, returning to the sport on a selective basis until he was killed at the Brooklands track in England in 1924.
