Image of The Week
This image appeared in the August 15, 1909 Indianapolis Star as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway prepared for its first automobile races. This is portrait shot of Frank Wheeler, one of the four founders of the famous Speedway and president of the Wheeler-Schebler Carburetor Company.
Wheeler's obituary is the best single source I have found about the man. The trophy reference in the heading above the photo refers to Wheeler's role in providing the Wheeler-Schebler Trophy for major events at the Speedway. Wheeler was the sales and marketing genius that took Mechanical Engineer George Schebler's magnificent carburetor to national prominence as a premier product of choice for automobile manufacturers.
