Gold Overland - 1909

This image originally appeared in the July 13, 1909 Indianapolis News. It shows an example of an Overland Model 38 1910 roadster. The company, with a significant manufacturing presence in Indianapolis, was offering one of these vehicles with special gold fixtures and plating as a prize to the driver busting off the fastest mile for the 1909 racing season at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The picture supported an article you will find elsewhere on First Super Speedway. The original caption read as follows:

"Model 38 1910 Overland roadster, to be awarded the driver making the fastest time for a mile on the new Indianapolis Motor Speedway during 1909. The most celebrated drivers in the world, American and foreign, are expected to compete for this trophy."
