Image of The Week
This image clearly identifies Steve Hannagan (left) and Waldo Stein (right). The driver is Bennett Hill in a front-wheel-drive Miller at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1926. The other gentlemen are unknown.
Hannagan was an extremely important figure in the history of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway beginning in 1919 when he assumed the role of chief publicist for the track. He is credited with being a pioneer in the field of public relations, setting fundamental principles in place that are professional standards today. As his career evolved he was a critical figure in Carl Fisher's work to establish Miami Beach. He later became a power broker in Hollywood.
Stein was a business partner to Barney Oldfield. He attempted to qualify for the 1920 Indianapolis 500 but failed.
Bennett Hill was a veteran of eight Indianapolis 500s, with a best finish of eighth in 1921.
