Jay McNay Dies at Savannah - 1911

When practice started for the Vanderbilt Cup and Grand Prize races in Savannah on November 20, a tragic harbinger of the end of racing at beautiful southern venue immediately appeared. During the first official practice session, Case driver Jay McNay was killed on LaRoche Avenue when, upon rounding a curve at over 80 miles per hour, he abruptly encountered a farmer hauling goods in his horse-drawn wagon.
