Lockhart in Stutz Blackhawk

This is a photo of 1926 Indianapolis 500 winner Frank Lockhart sitting in his Land Speed Record Stutz Black Hawk (he was the primary engineer in its design and construction) at the Brickyard probably in early April 1928 before his ill-fated trip to Daytona Beach where he lost his life. This young, massively talented driver looked to have a brilliant future until his life was cut short. Check out David Story's depiction of this great driver and his winning car elsewhere on First Super Speedway.

Amazing mind, amazing designer, amazing talent.
