National Team, May 1910

This image is from the May 30, 1910 Indianapolis Sun that reported on the  May 1910 race meet at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This race meet included "national championships," a newly-announced distinction by the American Automobile Association (AAA) for select race meets. Car manufacturers were keen to make a great showing. Check out other articles that provide additional summaries on the results of the races staged May 27 and May 28 elsewhere on First Super Speedway.

The photo is of the three young drivers for the National Motor Vehicle Company's race team. They were team leader Johnny Aitken with Tom Kincaid and Howdy Wilcox who was just moving up to driver after riding as a mechanic for the team. Wilcox would go on to win the Indianapolis 500 in 1919.

The original cutline with the photo read: "The National cars are doing good work at the Speedway races. Aitken, Kincaid and Wilcox are the drivers."
