Oldfield Fourth at American GP

After the death of David Bruce-Brown in practice for the 1912 American Grand Prize the Fiat team contracted Barney Oldfield as the replacement driver. Oldfield was just coming off a long American Automobile Association (AAA) suspension for his part in staging the October 25, 1910 unsanctioned match race against World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Jack Johnson. Oldfield turned in a creditable performance, finishing fourth.
