Oldfield's 1903 Gold Medal

Thanks to Ken Parrotte, we have of Barney Oldfield's "track championship" gold medal for his performance at the July 1903 race meet at the Empire City horse track. The gold medal was sponsored by the Automobile Topics trade newspaper. You can find that information in an article that was published in the publication on September 5, 1903 and attached below. A second, more detailed article appeared in the New York Times on July 26th. Oldfield actually was awarded the medal for winning a match race with Frank La Roche in his Darracq racer.
