Phil "Red" Shafer

This is a photo of Indianapolis 500 veteran Phil "Red" Shafer  in 1926. Shafer was a seven-time starter in the "500," with a best finish of third in 1925. He also drove relief in three consecutive "500s" beginning in 1922. Among other forms of racing, Shafer was a veteran of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.
