Samuel P. Dickson

This is a photo of riding mechanic Samuel P. Dickson who was fatally injured in the first Indianapolis 500. Dickson was riding with driver Art Greiner when their Amplex crashed entering the backstretch of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the 12th lap of the race. Dickson was thrown from the car as it hit the tall wood plank fence that bordered the track in those days. This photo appeared in the May 31, 1911 Indianapolis News.
