Young Louis Meyer

In this image from the Paul Sheedy Collection, we see young Louis Meyer - probably 22 - in 1926 at  Charlotte Speedway - a board track. The margin notes indicate that this was Meyer's "maiden race." This is probably true, as there are records from other sources that show Meyer raced at the track's November 1926 race meet, the only time that year he competed as a driver in the AAA championship. There were four races that day and Meyer was entered in two of them. However, the car threw a rod for a DNF and the damage could not be repaired in time for the second race.

Meyer was working with Indianapolis 500 veteran Frank Elliott as a mechanic. The car was a Miller but referred to as a Locomoible Jr. 8 as a marketing decision by that company.
