These images pertain to racing. Many times the sport was criticized in editorial cartoons as excessively dangerous or disruptive to the tranquility of a community. Even more frequently automotive manufacturers proclaimed their success in advertising to appeal to customers with evidence of their superior quality products.

Marmon Ad - Glenn Valley Hill Climb

Marmon enjoyed good success at the May 1906 Glenn Valley Hill Climb with one victory, a second and a third place. The company ran this ad to promote the quality and power of their car in the Indianapolis News on May 25. The ad promotes both the company's $2,500, 24 HP Model C and their $3,500, 30 HP Model D. These were four cylinder, air-cooled cars with double three-point suspension.
