ALCO Rides Again

09/09/2009

Howard Kroplick, the world's leading authority on the William K. Vanderbilt Jr. International Cup Races (usually referred to simply as, "The Vanderbilt Cup"), has restored the American Locomotive Company - ALCO racer that Harry Grant drove to victory in two successive Vanderbilt Cup Races in 1909 and 1910. Grant also won two sprint races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway race meet in July 1910 and then reappeared as one of the favorites to win the first Indianapolis 500 in 1911.

Howard's work has paid off fabulously well and he and his beautiful machine has been recognized with a number of awards. His latest came at the famed road course in Lime Rock, Connecticut over Labor Day Weekend 2009 when his prized historic racer took top honors in the pre-1960 Vintage Car Class at their annual Vintage Car Show. Howard's Website, www.vanderbiltcupraces.com, has a wealth of historical information on America's first international road race.
