The Great Indianapolis Auto Show of 1910

05/09/2009

Most people are not aware that Indianapolis hosted a huge auto show from March 27 through April 2 1910. This show was organized by the leaders of the automobile industry, especially those in Indianapolis that included such companies as Marmon, Marion, Premier and Empire. As you might suspect, Carl Fisher, the man who not only founded the Indianapolis Motor Speedway but built what might have been the country's first automobile dealership and effectively created an area of downtown that would come to be known as "automobile row," was smack in the middle of things. And so was the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which hosted time trials supporting the five day extravaganza. This collection is well worth a long, hard look if you are researching the Indianapolis Motor Speedway centennial or just love the Speedway to death.
