The Indy 500's First Driver's Meeting

07/24/2009

I just uploaded an article on the first driver's meeting ever conducted for the Indianapolis 500. It was held on the evening of May 27, 1911. Legendary officials such as Starter Fred Wagner (you can read his book on this site), Referee A.R. Pardington and American Automobile Association (AAA) Contest Board Chairman Sam Butler, along with Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Carl Fisher, conducted the meeting. Both drivers and mechanics were required to attend - of course, everyone except Ray Harroun had a riding mechanic.

The article, which was published in the Indianapolis Star, also warns the public against counterfeit tickets and programs. I wonder if Fisher would consider this Web site counterfeit?
