Altoona, Murphy, The King

This image is of 1922 Indianapolis 500 champion Jimmy Murphy after winning the 250-miler on the Altoona Board Track on September 1, 1924. It was the same race that cost 1924 Indianapolis 500 champion Joe Boyer his life. Murphy had two weeks to live.  He suffered fatal injuries on September 15 after a brutal accident on the Syracuse dirt mile.

Thanks to the Paul Sheedy Collection for this photo. If you can't see this as an iconic image, you will never know of one. This is authenticity. This is everything.
