Bob Burman's Crown

Bob Burman set several new speed records the day before the first Indianapolis 500 in his Blitzen Benz. Among other honors, Burman was awarded this impressive jeweled crown while at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The crown was valued at $10,000 and was sponsored by Firestone, which is clearly visible on the front of the crown.

Author Robert Dick in his book, "Auto Racing Comes of Age, a Trans-Atlantic View of the Cars, Drivers, and Speedways, 1909 - 1925," described the crown.  "The crown was a most elaborate affair, made in New York, an exact duplicate of the crown used at the coronation of King George IV, embellished with diamonds, rubies, and emeralds."
