Earl Cooper

This image from the Paul Sheedy collection is of Hall-of-Fame driver Earl Cooper, one of the great American talents of his era or any other time.  Earl Cooper finished second in the 1924 Indianapolis 500. Cooper was one of the great drivers that probably should have won the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, but it somehow slipped from his grasp. Cooper competed in seven Indy 500s, with a fourth-place finish in 1915 to go with the second in 1924. He started on the pole at Indy in his final Indianapolis 500 in 1926.
