IMS Front Stretch (1909)

This image was published in the May 15, 1910 Indianapolis Star in support of an article previewing the May 1910 "national championshipsrace meet at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Despite that fact this photo certainly was captured during the tragic inaugural auto races that resulted in five fatalities in August 1909. That even triggered the track leadership's decision to embark on a massive paving project that earned the venerable track the nickname, "Brickyard."
