Stillman in Marmon at Speed - IMS, 1909

This image of Marmon team race driver Harry Stillman was originally published in the August 19, 1909, Indianapolis News. It was part of the coverage of the first auto races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. 
 
The picture was taken during practice for the upcoming event weekend August 18, 1909. Stillman enjoyed little success in the three-day race meet but Marmon did pick up a win with their star, Ray Harroun, in a 10-mile handicap contest conducted on August 19, the first day of the three-day meet. Stillman went on to compete in the first Indianapolis 500 and was the first driver to test the Marmon Wasp at the Brickyard.
