Great History: Giant's Despair Hill Climb

01/13/2010

The Giant's Despair Hill Climb may be the oldest running such auto competition in the United States. Established in 1906, the event is currently sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and boasts a great history. I recently commented on an article on this site that provides the results of the Giant's Despair Hill Climb run in 1910. Among the winners of that contest - which, as it does today, includes individual competitions for a variety of classes - were early Indianapolis 500 winners Ray Harroun and Ralph DePalma.
