Barney and his Cheroot

This is the archetypal shot of Berna Eli "Barney" Oldfield - a big stogie in, as he used to say, "The southwest corner of my mouth." The photo was taken during the 1914 Los Angeles to Phoenix Cactus Derby, a race he won and in doing so was pronounced the "Master Driver of the World." Autographed copies available now at markgdill.com, and you can purchase Mark's book at  BookBaby's online bookshop.
