Harroun at Speed

This dramatic shot of Ray Harroun in a Marmon racer was published in the May 28, 1911 Indianapolis Star. This photo does not appear to be of the 1911 Indianapolis 500 race-winning Marmon Wasp, but an earlier iteration. This car does not have the pointed tail or the aerodynamic hub caps that covered the wood-spoke wheels of the Wasp. Note in the far right corner of the photo the apparent shadow of another driver running side-by-side with the iconic Harroun.
