Muddy Barney

Barney Oldfield was coated in mud after the 1914 Los Angeles-to-Phoenix off-road race known as the "Cactus Derby." Note the fresh cigar. The cigar he used during the race, a mud-coated stub, was auctioned off by a press agent on site.
