Image of The Week

This photo of "Wild" Bob Burman ran in the May 4, 1911 Indianapolis Star. Burman was a successful driver, but as his nickname indicates, he typically threw caution to the wind. He won the 1909 Prest-O-Lite Trophy at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and set the world land speed mark at Daytona Beach in 1911 at 141+ mph. He survived an amazing string of accidents and was never seriously injured until his death in the Corona, California road race in 1916.
