Aerial View, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, 1919

This image was reportedly taken from an airplane prior to the start of the 1919 Indianapolis 500, promoted that year as the "500-Mile Liberty Sweepstakes." Howdy Wilcox, a native Hoosier, brought his car home the winner as the military band played, "Back Home Again In Indiana," for the first time in Speedway history.
