DePaolo Wins Laurel

This photo of 1925 Indianapolis 500 champion Peter DePaolo was taken after his July 11, 1925 victory at the Baltimore-Washington board track speedway in Laurel, Maryland. The race was a 250-miler. The car is probably the same Duesenberg he drove to victory in the "500" just weeks earlier in May. Note the iconic logo across his chest on his uniform. The wood plank track was known as the Baltimore-Washington Speedway.

Note that DePaolo's average speed for the Laurel race was 123.220 mph - a full 22 mph faster than his average speed for winning the "500" that same year.
