Boyer 1924

Joe Boyer, seen here, won the 1924 Indianapolis 500. This race is known as the first of two "500's" with co-winning driversLora L. Corum started the race in the car but was replaced by the team's star driver, Joe Boyer, after the latter's car failed. The other co-winners were Mauri Rose and Floyd Davis in 1941.
 
This photo was captured at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May 1924, when Boyer won the "500." Sadly, he lost his life less than four months later at Altoona.
