Walter Brookins Background

This is a nice piece that provides background to Walter Brookins, the 21-year-old sensation that became the star of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's June 1910 aviation show. Brookins flew for the Wright Brothers and this article discusses how Brookins had a relationship with the Wrights not unlike that of Formula One's Lewis Hamilton and Ron Dennis of McLaren.  Brookins met the Wrights as a small boy and charmed them with his enthusiasm and determination. The article also includes quotes from Orville Wright on his thoughts about what it took to be an aviator. The article was published June 16, 1910.
