Community Salutes Newby in Death

J. W. Atherton, secretary of finance at Butler University said this of Arthur C. "Art" Newby at the time of his passing, "Modesty and sincerety were among his chief charms. Indianapolis and community and many friends have sustained a severe loss in his passing."

Butler had benefited a great deal from Newby's largesse. Newby was proponent of quality education and put his money where his mouth was. As with many of his contributions, he did not make public his contributions. This information speaks to the character of the man, who by all accounts appeared to be an "others-centered" individual. This obituary is from the Indianapolis Star.
