May 1910 Race Meet Program

These articles were originally published May 26, 1910 in the Indianapolis Star, the day before the Indianapolis Motor Speedway began its May 1910 race meet. The race program for the first day of the three-day meet is included as well as summary of practice speeds.

There is also a nice collection of short items analogous to what the Indianapolis Star has called "pit pass" in more recent times. Among my favorites is a mention of Barney Oldfield's hired driver Ben Kirscher in the 1905 Darracq that won the 1905 Vanderbilt Cup. Also, the construction of "large plank mountanins" for the meet's hazard race and a test run of the Overland Wind Wagon which participated in an exhibition race against a Wright Brothers airplane in the following month's aviation meet at the Speedway.
