Auto Laws & Indy Car Production

This is a good article published in the January 31, 1907 Indianapolis Star. It is a nice piece to reflect on as it explains a formative stage of street traffic regulation and the need for it. My favorite part is at the end when they talk Indianapolis car production. Some key points -

  • Indianapolis was number two in the nation for automobile production at the time.
  • Indiana had 25 auto factories, nine of which were in Indianapolis.
  • The industry employed between 12 and 15 thousand workers.
  • The monetary value of the output was estimated to be between $12M and $15M.

These figures are near the end of the article, the lead and most of the body concern traffic regulation.
